About Calaveras No Grove

Calaveras North Grove is a 61-acre grove in the Central Sierra Watershed region situated between 4,665 - 4,838 feet elevation at 38.28005 °N. It is managed by Calaveras Big Trees State Park. The second most northern grove, Calaveras North is somewhat isolated compared to most other sequoia groves. The grove is located on Highway 4 in the small Big Trees Creek drainage of the Calaveras River watershed. It was one of the earliest groves to attract tourists and remains highly visited. Calaveras North is home to several notable giant sequoia trees, including the Empire State Tree - the largest in the grove. Aside from two large, mature sequoias being cut down for exhibition purposes, the grove has remained unlogged.
