About Indian Basin Grove

Indian Basin Grove is a 212-acre grove in the Kings River Watershed region situated between 5,857 - 6,184 feet elevation at 36.80532°N. It is located on both sides of Highway 180 and in the drainage of Indian Creek, a tributary to Tenmile Creek within the Kings River watershed. Indian Basin Grove is managed by Sequoia National Forest/Giant Sequoia National Monument. It occurs at a low elevation for the southern Sierra and has a mostly southern exposure. Once home to many exceptionally large giant sequoias, this grove was heavily logged at the beginning of the 20th century and now only second growth sequoias remain. It is unique in that it is primarily on level ground, indicating that it must have had a dense concentration of very large sequoias.
